Do you need a diagnosis to talk to a psychologist?

No, you don’t need a diagnosis to speak with a psychologist. Many people seek out a psychologist due to common but challenging life situations – such as stress, relationship issues, work pressure, low self-esteem, sleep difficulties, or feeling stuck in life.

Psychologists are trained to support people with a wide range of needs, and it is completely normal to attend sessions without having a diagnosed mental health condition. Some seek support during a difficult time, while others want to explore their thought and behavior patterns to create change or prevent minor issues from growing.

Psychologists are also qualified to assess and treat mental health disorders. At Eyr, our psychologists do not perform diagnostic evaluations, but they can assist with assessment and treatment. If you’re experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate depression, anxiety, stress-related reactions, or similar, the psychologist can offer treatment based on evidence-based methods.

No matter what you’re dealing with – big or small – you are welcome to talk to a psychologist.
